i think ashlee simpson-wentz is so cool and if i were famous, we would totally be bffs. but staring in the new melrose place remake? not so cool. while ashlee is doing it so she can stay in one place and raise baby bronx, the show is all wrong wrong wrong. i never watched the original and i’m sure it was great so why try desperately to recreate history?

ashlee joins a long list of actors who have already agreed to the remake. she is rumored to be playing violet, a small-town girl who is trying her luck in la. good luck violet.

ashlee confirmed the news to ok! magazine.

“i’m thrilled to be joining the cast of melrose place and look forward to being a part of its new generation of residents,” she says.

melrose is not the first show to come back with a remake. last year, our favorite zip code got a makeover.

the new 90210 is horrid. it makes a mockery of aaron spelling’s masterpiece. as an original beverly hills, 90210 fan (and a kelly and dylan fan nonetheless), i am ashamed of what has become of television. can we not be more creative that we’re reusing zip codes and story lines, for that matter? last i heard, the new brandon got a job at the new peach pit to make a little extra cash. seriously? fine, we get it. the original 90210 was one of the best shows of its generation and no show of its genre has lived up to its standards. every show wants to be the 90210 of its generation so what better way to make it a reality than bring in a new class of west beverly students? but seriously, get creative. if i have to put up with ten years of rich kids battling drug overdoses and love triangles, i will be sick. just go ahead and pass the barf bag now.

a friend of mine who was in the process of starting a website scored backstage passes to a concert a couple years ago and asked me to tag along since i’m a writer. she had never really interviewed anyone before and wanted my insight. i agreed to go and soon found myself surrounded by artists, some better known then others.

the one person we had the chance to interview that sticks with me to this day was mims. he was one of the most down-to-earth, humble artists i have ever met (i say that like i’ve met so many). anyway, if you don’t know who mims is, you’ve probably heard the song “this is why i’m hot.” that’s mims.

mims grew up north of harlem and lost both his parents by the age of thirteen. although he finished high school, he dropped out of community college to pursue a career as a rapper. and there…”this is why i’m hot” was born.

i asked mims how he came up with the song.

“i was sitting in the studio one day,”  he says. “and i was like this is why i’m hot. and then i was like this is why i’m hot. this is why i’m hot. this is why. this is why. this is why i’m hot,” he says, breaking into song. i’ll never forget about the mini concert mims gave us and how grateful he was to be at the concert that night.

his debut album music is my savior was released in 2007 by emi/capital.

well no one said it was going to be easy…famous last words for sweet, innocent teenage britney. could you imagine if brit had actually waited? does that mean she would’ve lost her virginity to jason alexander? oh don’t tell me you don’t remember her 55 1/2 hour marriage to her childhood pal. i mean that was before she married k-fed, had 2 kids and lost her freaking mind.
